or the cheap, rough fabric. I'm not sure if the rash has to do with the fiberglass batting (great idea for a baby product, huh). Regardless, I would highly recommend looking for a similar product that doesn't contact fiberglass. When my baby is on his back, he enjoys swatting at the toys. but when we do tummy time and his face comes in contact with the fabric, it causes a rash.
We also use it for the dreaded tummy-time, as it has flaps with crinkly noises that distract him a bit from how frustrating tummy-time can be. When we first purchased it he was 6 weeks old and he could really only stay on it happily for 5-8 minutes at a stretch, but now at 11 weeks he will enjoy independent play for a good 10-15 minutes - long enough for Mommy to put in a load of laundry. We love this activity mat. My 11 week old son is learning to grab toys, and he "talks" to the animals as he reaches for them and bats at them.
If you are looking for a gym for your baby when s/he is on their back, then this is a fine one to get. I was disappointed in this mat, based on the fact that I was looking for something to encourage my 5 month old son in his tummy time. Unfortunately, ours is stored more than it is used. It folds up and snaps for easy storage. I thought the musical buttons on the mat would be great cause and effect fun, but they are hard to press. Sometimes he can make them work if he hits them with his heel, but then he has to be on his back which is not the point for tummy time.
The only complaint I have is that I purchased this so he would enjoy tummy time more. My 4 month old enjoys this pretty much. He will probably start to like it more later. Now he does not want to be on his tummy.A friend of mines 1 year old loves it, so I will give it more time. When he started rolling over at 3 months I decided to get something for him to play with also. Now he does not roll anymore.
I highly recommend this gym for every baby. Everyday, he learns to do a new trick. He will roll and scoot from one corner to the other looking and batting at his favorite toys.
This gym truly is the best and folds up in a cinch. And he shows no sign of boredom. Researched every gym made by every brand.
He has learned to roll over when playing in it. Well worth the money. My son was 2 months old when we first got it and he's 4 months old, now.
He still loves it.
